PROCEDURE

INITIATING ACTIVITY

The teacher and students discuss the beginning of the Renaissance period and the issues that face the people of the time. Such issues as the beginning of a secular world, the end of the crusades, and the reformation.

The students are to imagine it is the turning point into the Renaissance period. They are to pretend they are a person living in Europe and are well aware of all the events taking place in society. Students are to discuss their feelings on the issues of the day. Each student is to write a short essay describing how the issues will effect them and their lives.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE

The students are to be divided into three groups. Each group will be assigned a topic, either Recreation in the Renaissance, Music in the Renaissance, or Clothing and Food in the Renaissance. Each group is to do electronic research to find information on their topic.

After the students collect information, the students are to work in their group and use their information to plan activities, music, food, and costumes to be used in a Renaissance Feast and Fancy to be celebrated in class when all groups are ready.
